The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program and the Baxter County Library will host a free Cemetery Preservation Information Workshop from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, at the Donald W. Reynolds Library at 300 Library Hill in MountainHome, AHPP Director Frances McSwain announced today.
The workshop, led by AHPP Technical Assistance Coordinator Brian Driscoll, will address such topics as cemetery safety, site clean-up, documentation, identifying marker types and monument cleaning techniques. Driscoll, who holds a historic preservation degree from Southeast Missouri State University, has run the AHPP’s technical assistance program for 11 years and has received professional training in cemetery preservation.

The AHPP is the Department of Arkansas Heritage agency responsible for identifying, evaluating, registering and preserving the state’s cultural resources. Other agencies are the Arkansas Arts Council, the Delta Cultural Center in Helena, the Old State House Museum, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission and the Historic Arkansas Museum.
